Meeting On Total Literacy Drive and Total Enrolment Drive

Kamalanagar, 8 April 2017: As part of follow up action of the meetings held at DC Office, Lawngtlai a meeting on total literacy drive and total enrolment was held today at CADC conference hall under the aegis of the CEM, CADC Dg. Kali Kumar Tongchangya.

The meeting was attended by some councilors and departmental heads of CADC offices. The meeting has been timed to take advantage of the new academic session 2017-18. To address the issues of illiteracy and poor enrolment the meeting constituted two working level committees, one at the sub-divisional level and the other at the village level. The District Level Working Committee (DLWC) (sub-divisional level) will be headed by the CEM, CADC with the EMs, i/c Education, Education Officer, P/S and M/S, Adult Education Officer, village level nodal officers and leaders of local NGOs as members under different capacities. The Village Level Committees (VLWC) will be headed by a nodal officer to be appointed by the DLWC. The VCP and his members, headmaster, NGO leaders and prominent citizens of the concerned village will work under the VLWC.
A multi-lingual primer for total literacy drive will be prepared in Chakma, Bengali and English by the Adult Education Dept., SSA CADC, P/S & M/S Education Dept. and the cost of printing will be born by the DC, Lawngtlai.

Earlier, the DC, Lawngtlai Dgb. A. Muthamma Laxmi concerned with the alarming poor rate of literacy, high rate of drop out and out of school children of Lawngtlai district especially of CADC area called a series of meeting which were attended by Dg. Gana Chandra Chakma, Education Officer, CADC and Dg. Jyotir Moy Chakma President, CYCA. The literacy rate of CADC as per census 2011 is 46.4%.
