Kamalanagar, 14 Nov. 2016: Mizoram Governor Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma who is on a visit of the three Autonomous District Councils arrived Kamalanagar today at 10 in the morning by helicopter. He was received by the Dg. Kali Kumar Tongchangya, CEM, CADC and Pu. Lalfakzual, SDO (Civil) at the Kamalanagar helipad. The guard of honour was done by the 225 Battalion CRPF based at Kamalanagar.

As part of the programme the Governor visited sites of developmental works like newly constructed Kamalanagar College under NLCPR and works under Modernization of Kamalanagar town. He expressed satisfaction over the progress of works being done. He also happened to see the Kathina Chivara Dana celebration programme on his visit to Mahamuni Buddha Vihar, the Buddhist temple at Kamalanagar-1.

Talking to the students at the site of Kamalanagar College he urged them to study hard to do well not only in Mizoram but outside Mizoram as well. He spoke to adopt healthy life style and avoid tobacco products. He said a healthy life is prerequisite to development.

“Mizoram will be the gateway for connectivity with Southeast Asia which will bring lots of opportunities for the people of this area”, he said to encourage the students for taking up study seriously.

In the reception programme organised at the CADC Rest House complex while greeting the people on the occasion of Kathin Chivara Dhana he said, “Today it is a auspicious day for not only those who follow Buddhism but for all because Lord Buddha brought the message of peace and peace of mind is what is most important.”

“You are aware why Autonomous District Council came into being. They are formed to pick up momentum in development for which certain amount of authority was given to the locals. To have authority is akin to having a double edged sword. With authority comes responsibility. Unless we don’t realize this we are bound to lack behind.”

“What I have found in all the 3 ADCs, 90 per cent of the funds allotted to them get spent for salaries and there remains hardly anything for developmental works. Therefore, you have to reduce the cost of establishment so that fund are spared for development.”

While alluding to the recent agitation by NGOs against alleged illegal appointments made by CADC he said, “All activities should be done in accordance with rules and there should be no instance of illegal activities or illegal appointments. There is no sanction for illegal activities. I am telling you all these for your own good and for the overall good of the Chakmas. You have to stand up and be counted. God helps those who helps them.”

While calling for unity in diversity he said, “We have to be all together, Chakma, Mizo, Reang, Hindu, Muslim and Christian. We are resident of Mizoram and of this country and we have to stand together. If we try pulling each other down, we will all be down. United we stand, united we gain.”
He expressed grave concern about the low literacy rate of the Chakmas and said, “Unless literacy rate increases and education comes up, you will be left behind.”
