Kamalanagar, 1 March:His Excellency the Governor of Mizoram Shri Vakkom Purushothaman was in Kamalanagar today. This was his maiden visit to the Chakma Council since he became the Governor of Mizoram in 2011.
He is on a tour of the three Autonomous District Councils of Mizoram. He has flown to Kamalanagar this morning from Lawngtlai by helicopter and stayed for around 2 hours. A cultural programme was organized in honour of His Excellency at CADC Rest House complex. He expressed his happiness of being amidst the people of CADC especially for the colourful cultural item presented in his honour. In a bid to reply to the various demands presented in a memorandum he said he shall call all the three Chiefs of the Councils, the Chief Minister and concerned authorities and sit together to discuss them. While saying this he also said he is only a constitutional head and therefore he can best forward their demands to the Government for scrutiny for due consideration.
Earlier, the Hon’ble CEM, CADC while presenting his welcome address submitted a memorandum placing various long felt demands for the area. The memorandum sought to elevate the Chawngte sub-division to the status of a Civil District, establishment of Rural Banks at Borapansury, Longpuighat and Kamalanagar, creation of a Sub-Divisional Office for Power and Electricity and PWD at Chawngte, implementation of schemes under ICDS and DRDA by CADC, assent for pending Rules and Bills pertaining to the Council, full entrustment of BADP and all centrally sponsored schemes to CADC for execution and creation of Rural Development Blocks at  longpuighat and Borapansury.
