CEM, CADC visits CADC Fish Seed Hatchery under construction

Kamalanagar, 13 February, 2022: The CADC fish seed hatchery under construction at Dulubonya with funding under MLA Local Area Development Fund, 2021-2022 was visited yesterday by Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Hon’ble Chief Executive Member, CADC accompanied by Dg. Amit Kumar Chakma, EM, i/c Fishery, Dg. Lokhidhan Chakma, Dy. Chairman, Dg. Uday Tongchangya, MDC, Dg. Hara Prasad Chakma, DAO and Dg. H. Nutan Chakma, DCFDO.

The construction at a cost of Rs.20 lakhs includes a water storage tank of 45,000 litres capacity, a circular breeding pool, two hatching pools, a spawn collection chamber, a spawn packing cum rest shed, five nursery ponds and one brood fish stocking pond.

The CEM, CADC was all praise for the fishery department, the implementing agency with the quality of work. The CEM expressed the need for construction of a chawkider quarter and fencing the area with wire mesh while assuring the department for fund provision in the CADC budget.

The hatchery will be ready for production within the end of this year and will be inaugurated by Dr. B.D. Chakma, Hon’ble MLA. The hatchery once ready for production will do away dependency on outsourcing of fish seed supply for fish farmers in CADC. It will also be a great source of revenue for CADC. Chairman, CADC urges youth to make use of social media for productive purpose on Republic Day

Kamalanagar, 26 January, 2022: Dg. Buddhalila Chakma, Chairman, Chakma Autonomous District Council on the occasion of celebration of 73rd Republic Day of India, organized in the premises of CADC secretariat, urged the youths to make use of social media for productive and beneficial purpose and refrain from destructive engagement. The appeal comes in the backdrop of rampant and unrestricted use of social media in the recent time to abuse and disrespect individuals with fake accounts.

While noting that there has been an alarming drop in respect for elders and for each other in the society, which otherwise use to be the hallmark of the Chakma society, he urged the Education Department, CADC to make emphasis over moral teaching in schools. He expressed regret and apprehension over the trend and felt the need to act to restore the moral fabric of the society that is ever taking a downhill trajectory.

The celebration programme has been curtailed and kept low key in view of the Covid pandemic that has seen a surge in positive cases recently. Invitees to the programme has been limited with only leaders and head of departments taking part.

Meeting-cum-awareness campaign on prevention and control of fire held

Kamalanagar, 24 January, 2022: Meeting-cum-awareness campaign on prevention and control of forest fire was held today in the conference hall of CADC Rest House, Kamalanagar organized by Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department, CADC in collaboration with Young Chakma Association and TARUM.

Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, CADC and Dg. Charan Singh Chakma, Executive Member, CADC attended the programme as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. The programme was also attended by leaders of Kamalanagar town area village councils and local NGOs.

It has been decided that awareness campaign on prevention of forest fire & protection of water sources shall be jointly organized by the NGOs & concerned department. To give effect to the agendum local level committees will be constituted at every village with members of village council and NGOs.

The Committees shall oversee and ensure burning of Jhum on or before 15th of March, ensure fire line along the border of jhums to prevent spread of fire to forest areas, check fishing with chemicals, by electrocution and explosion, check dumping of garbage/waste products into water bodies and demarcate boundaries of catchment areas of water sources and VFDC gardens.

Domestic Cattle such as bulls/cows and buffaloes which cause pollution to water bodies will be strictly prohibited from entering them.

The Committee shall encourage residents for planting of seedlings in memory of one’s own parents to enhance greenery in the locality.

CEM, CADC inspects Kamalanagar football ground under construction. First tournament on Astro Turf field to be played on CADC Golden Jubilee celebration

Kamalanagar, 14 January, 2022: Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, Chakma Autonomous District Council today visited the Kamalanagar football ground under construction for laying artificial turf facilitated by Mizoram Sports Department. He was accompanied by his colleague MDCs.

The project is funded under PMJVK at a cost of Rs.532.50 Lakhs which includes site preparation, security fencing, concrete paver block footpath around the ground. There is also separate fund provision for construction of a pavilion cum change room and two viewers galleries.

On interaction with the work supervisor of the contractor it has been learnt that the football field will be ready by the month of March, 2022. As of now 40% of the work has been completed.

“The first football tournament on the new Astro turf field will be played on the ocassion of CADC Golden Jubilee celebration which is due in April this year, to be organized by Mizoram Sport Department in collaboration with Chakma Autonomous District Council and Central Young Chakma Association”, the CEM, CADC informed while stating that it is being made possible on the initiative of Pu Robert Romawia Royte, Hon’ble Minister of State.

He also attributed the project being granted here, to this remote and backward part of the state, to his goodwill for the Chakma minority community.

He further added, “A youth hostel will be proposed near the football field which will facilitate accommodation for sports team hailing from far off corners during a tournament.”

Dg. Buddhalila Chakma, MDC elected as new Chairman, CADC

Kamalanagar, 29 December, 2021: Dg. Buddha Lila Chakma, Member of District Council, Chakma Autonomous District Council was today elected as the new Chairman of CADC in a session summoned for the purpose. He was the only Member who has filed nomination for the election notified on 23rd Dec. 2021 and was declared elected uncontested by the Deputy Chairman, Dg. Lakhi Dhan Chakma who presided today’s Session.

The election for the new Chairman has been necessitated following tender of resignation by Dg. Mohan Chakma, MDC from the post on 22nd Nov., 2021.

For Dg. Buddhalila Chakma it is his second stint as Chairman, CADC during this current term of the District Council. Earlier, he has held the post from May, 2018 to January, 2019.

First ever Chakma Premier League of cricket kicks off

Kamalanagar, 19 December, 2021: The first ever Chakma Premier League of cricket in Mizoram kicked off yesterday at Borapansury-I. Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, Chakma Autonomous District Council inaugurated the opening ceremony of the league which will feature 47 contests and will be played over eighteen days. The final will be played on 7th January, 2021.

The tournament was kicked off with the Hon’ble CEM, CADC hitting a ball from one of the players.

The CEM speaking on the occasion wanted that this event should not become a one-off exercise and urged the youths for pursuing sports with professional ambition and perseverance. He further added that career in sports and for that matter any in non-academic fields should also be aspired by the youths.

The league organized by CADC Cricket Association in collaboration of NGOs of Borapansury will be played by a total of 20 teams hailing from different parts of Chakma inhabited areas of Mizoram. David Chakma, the President of the CADC Cricket Association speaking over phone said that the league will identify the best players for selection to represent the Chakma community in the President Cup to be played in Aizawl.

The 20 teams are distributed over four groups. The entire tournament will be played in four rounds – first round, quarter final, semi final and final. The first round will be played in 15 over format and the rest of the rounds in T20 format. In the first round each team will get to play four matches and the best two performing teams from each group will qualify for the quarter final round. The four winning teams of the four quarter final matches will qualify for the semi-final round and the winners of the two semi-final matches will reach the final round.

The league was conceived a year ago but could not take off due to the covid-19 pandemic. The tournament was initially planned at the Kamalanagar playground but due to the ongoing work of laying astroturf there the venue has been relocated to Borapansury.

Meeting held to celebrate CADC Golden Jubilee

Kamalanagar, 06 December, 2021: A meeting attended by Member of Chakma District Council, head of departments, CADC and representatives of Central Young Chakma Association, Chakma Mahila Samilti, Mizoram Chakma Student Union, Mizoram Buddhist Association, Chakma District Employee Association, Chakma District Pensioners Association, TARUM was held under the chairmanship of Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, Chief Executive Member, CADC in the conference hall of CADC Rest House, Kamalanagar to discuss the celebration of CADC Golden Jubilee. CADC constituted on 29th April 1972 will complete 50 years on 29th April next year.

The meeting was held on 4th Dec., 2021 and was convened by Legislative Department, CADC.

The meeting constituted a committee for management of celebration of the occasion which has been named as CADC Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee (1972-2022). The Chairman of CADC will be the Chairman of the Committee.

Besides, three sub-committees were formed each for publication of a Souvenir, a photo album and installation of statues.

An advisory committee with Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, CEM, CADC, Dr. B.D. Chakma, MLA, Mizoram, Dg. Nirupam Chakma, former Minister, Mizoram, Dg. Alak Bikash Chakma, former MLA, Mizoram and Dg. H. Amaresh Chakma, EM, CADC as member was also formed.

The Golden Jubilee celebration will be held through the year with the opening and closing ceremony to be organised at Kamalanagar. In between celebration programmes will also be organised at the three sub-headquarters – Borapansury, Longpuighat and Parva.

The Celebration Commitee will chalk out the events to feature the Golden Jubilee Celebration.

Installation of life size statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and pioneers of CADC, planting of 5 Lakhs saplings throughout CADC during the Jubilee year, erection of CADC welcome gates at three entry points, setting up of Chakma model village, etc. were some of the proposals that emerged in the meeting for inclusion to mark the ocassion.

Hon’ble Governor visits Kamalanagar, CADC

Kamalanagar, 03 December, 2021: Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram was in Kamalanagar, Chakma Autonomous District Council today, his maiden visit to the District Council after assuming office in July this year.

A short cultural programme was arranged in the premises of CADC Rest House, Kamalanagar in honour of His Excellency. The reception program was curtailed with presence of important officials, leaders and NGO representatives only in view of the covid pandemic.

His Excellency speaking called for collective responsibility of all stakeholders in carrying forward the task of development and progress while urging all to take the challenges as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.

In making this statement he said that various tools and resources that are at our disposal can be utilized to help the poor, the under privileged and the downtrodden.

He has mentioned various welfare schemes of the Central Government like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, etc. whose benefits he said are to be ensured for the targeted people by the government officials while calling for awareness of all such welfare schemes among the people.

The Constitutional responsibility bestowed upon him by the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution as a Governor in respect of the Autonomous District Councils he said shall give him opportunity to work for welfare of the area and its people to the best of his ability.

Earlier, the Hon’ble CEM, CADC Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma in his welcome speech expressed hope in the keen interest and concern of His Excellency for this area which is conspicuous from his visit within such a short time of assuming office.

Later, His Excellency had an interactive session with the various officials of offices of state government and CADC. Power point presentations were presented on profile of Chawngte Sub-Division and security scenario of Chawngte Sub-Division. During the interaction the Hon’ble Governor has shown keen interest in the implementation of PMGSY schemes, schemes for electrification of all villages, schemes for supply of water connection in every village and creation of awareness by the banks operating here for Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The line department officials present were made to explain poor progress of works particularly roads under PMGSY.

Political leaders and NGO representatives also met His Excellency. His Excellency also visited the only Community Health Centre within CADC before leaving for Aizawl.

Dg. Lakhi Dhan Chakma, MDC elected as the new Deputy Chairman

Kamalanagar, 16 November, 2021: Dg. Lakhi Dhan Chakma, Member of District Council, Chakma Autonomous District Council was elected today as the new Deputy Chairman in an election held today in the CADC Session Hall. He was the lone contestant to file nomination for the post and was declared elected uncontested.

The post of the Deputy Chairman has been lying vacant since Dg. Anil Kanti Chakma, MDC resigned from the post on 4/10/2021.

Dg. Lakhi Dhan Chakma was elected to the 10th Chakma Autonomous District Council from 14-Longpuighat MDC constituency.

The Chairman before dismissing the Session read out the notification of the Governor dated 1st October 2021 setting aside the order of the Chairman, CADC issued on 20th September, 2021 to disqualify Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, then an MDC, now the Chief Executive Member, CADC for a period of 5 years while expressing deep regret for the action so taken without any merit and offered apology for the unnecessary harm so caused. He has attributed the cause for such an unwarranted move to a situation triggered by the then political crisis.
