Kamalanagar, 11 December 2025: A one-day Teachersโ€™ Seminar on Educational Reforms in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), conducted under the theme โ€œBuilding a Strong Academic Foundationโ€, was held on 10 December 2025 at the Art & Culture Hall, Kamalanagar. The programme was organised by the Middle School Education Department, CADC, and witnessed participation from a large number of teachers from across the CADC.

The inaugural session was attended by Shri Rasik Mohan Chakma, Honโ€™ble MLA, 36-Tuichawng (ST) Assembly Constituency, as Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Shri Roimanekyo Chakma, Secretary, DSEB CADC; Shri Durjoy Chakma, Retired Education Officer, CADC; Shri Buddhankur Chakma, Senior Finance & Accounts Officer, CADC; and Shri Sadanand Chakma, District Transport Officer, CADC, as Guests of Honour and Special Guest.

CADC urges Govt. of Mizoram to introduce Science, Commerce at Govt. Kamalanagar HSS

Kamalanagar, April 24, 2025: The Chakma Autonomous District Council has urged the Govt. of Mizoram to introduce Science and Commerce streams at the Govt. Kamalanagar Higher Secondary School. The appeal was made during the two-day official visit of Dr. Vanlalthlana, Honโ€™ble Minister for School Education, to Kamalanagar on April 23 and 24, 2025.

In a memorandum submitted to the Honโ€™ble Minister, the CADC highlighted the absence of Science and Commerce streams at the schoolโ€”the only government higher secondary institution in the entire CADC area. Currently, the school offers only the Humanities stream, thereby limiting academic choices and career prospects for the local students. The Council requested the Minister to take necessary steps for the inclusion of additional streams to ensure equitable access to higher secondary education for students in CADC and adjoining areas under LADC.

The memorandum also expressed concern over the acute shortage of teachers in schools across the CADC. It noted that many teachers who were initially appointed under the Samagra Shiksha scheme for Kamalanagar Block have been either posted or attached to offices outside the CADC. These appointees, being non-residents, were directly recruited from the head office and have shown reluctance to serve in the remote areas of CADC. As a result, some interior schools are reportedly being run by a single teacher.

Reiterating an earlier proposal, the CADC further appealed for the introduction of Mizo language as a subject in all schools within its jurisdiction. Acknowledging Mizo as the official language of the State, the memorandum stated that incorporating the language in the curriculum would help bridge communication gaps, foster cultural understanding, and promote inter-community harmony. It proposed the recruitment of 150 Mizo language teachers on a fixed pay basis of โ‚น15,000 per month, seeking a total monthly allocation of โ‚น22.50 lakh in addition to the annual budget of the CADC.

Dr. Vanlalthlana was received warmly by Dg. Montu Chakma, Executive Member and i/c CEM, CADC; Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, MLA, 36-Tuichawng; along with other Executive Members, MDCs, and officials of the CADC. The Honโ€™ble Minister was accompanied by Pu Malsawmtluanga, Joint Secretary, School Education Department; Pu C. Lalthanzira, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha; and Prof. Benjamin Lalrinsanga, State Nodal Officer (NEP), Higher & Technical Education.

As part of the visit, the Honโ€™ble Minister and his team toured several educational institutions in Kamalanagar and held interactions with local stakeholders.

CADC CEM Lauds Teachers as Pillars of Nation-Building on Teachersโ€™ Day

Kamalanagar, September 5, 2024: The Honโ€™ble Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council and MLA of the 36-Tuichawng Constituency, Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma, today extended his heartfelt wishes to the teaching fraternity on the occasion of Teachersโ€™ Day.

In his speech as the Chief Guest at the Teachersโ€™ Day celebration organized by the Govt. Kamalanagar Higher Secondary School, Dg. Rasik Mohan Chakma highlighted the significance of the day by sharing a short biography of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birthday is celebrated as Teachersโ€™ Day. โ€œDr. Radhakrishnan was a man of immense qualities, a truly accomplished personality,โ€ he remarked, stressing the invaluable contributions teachers make to the society.

Emphasizing the indispensable role of teachers in building a civilized society, he stated, โ€œTeaching, like other professions, is a paid job, but what makes it special is the profound impact it has on the fabric of our nation. Without teachers, we cannot imagine a functioning society. Teachers donโ€™t just pass on knowledge from textbooks; they mould students into responsible members of the society. That is why they deserve the honour and respect that comes with the Teachersโ€™ Day.โ€

During his address, he conveyed the ideals of the teaching profession by quoting lines from Abraham Lincolnโ€™s letter to his sonโ€™s teacher. He highlighted how Lincoln had urged the teacher to focus not only on academics but also on instilling moral values and good character traits in nurturing the young minds.

He also shared his personal experience as a teacher at the Govt. Kamalanagar Higher Secondary School, where he served for two years before entering politics. He acknowledged that there might be teachers posted in Kamalanagar, often considered a โ€œhard postingโ€ from urban areas like Aizawl and Lunglei, who may face challenges in adjusting to the local environment here. He apprised them that the people of this part of the state need their service and encouraged them to approach him if they face any difficulties. He assured them of his assistance in his capacity for the welfare of the children.
