Kamalanagar, 21 January 2026 : The Adult Education Department of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) has completed a comprehensive literacy survey covering all 88 Village Councils under its jurisdiction from October 2025 to January 2026.

The survey collected data under two age groups, namely 7 to 14 years and 15 years and above. The exercise was carried out with the cooperation and support of Headmasters of various schools and representatives of local Non-Government Organisations. Based on the data collected, the overall literacy rate of the Chakma Autonomous District Council has been assessed at 61.03 per cent.
This survey is the first comprehensive literacy assessment conducted by the Adult Education Department of the Chakma Autonomous District Council. On the basis of the survey findings, the Department has prepared the Literacy Chart of the Chakma Autonomous District Council, 2026.
The Literacy Chart was officially unveiled by Shri Pronit Bikash Chakma, Executive Secretary, Chakma Autonomous District Council, today at Kamalanagar, in the presence of officers, representatives of Non-Government Organisations, and staff of the Chakma Autonomous District Council.
In addition to the survey, the Adult Education Department also conducted literacy awareness campaigns in selected villages under the CADC to sensitise the public on the importance of education and lifelong learning.
Established in 1996, the Adult Education Department of the CADC has been working towards improving literacy and educational awareness in the CADC area. Shri Krishna Kumar Chakma, District Adult Education Officer, CADC, has expressed his gratitude to the School Headmasters and local Non-Government Organisations for their cooperation in the successful completion of the survey.
