Kamalanagar, 8 August 2025: Shri Dinesh Moy Chakma of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has been elected as Member of District Council (MDC) from the 7-Kamalanagar ‘W’ Constituency of the Chakma Autonomous District Council in the by-election held on 6^th August 2025. He secured 724 votes, winning by a narrow margin of 9 votes over his closest rival Shri Joydeep Chakma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who garnered 715 votes. The counting of votes was conducted today, the 8 August 2025, at Lawngtlai.

The by-election was necessitated following the unfortunate demise of the sitting MDC, Shri Sanjeev Chakma of the BJP on 8th April, 2025, which resulted in a vacancy in the 7-Kamalanagar ‘W’ Constituency. Subsequently, on 24th June 2025, the Governor of Mizoram ordered a by-election to the constituency to elect a new member. The contest saw four candidates in the fray, representing Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mizo National Front (MNF), and Indian National Congress (INC).
