CADC CEM flags off Vigilance Walkathon, appeals for integrity in public service

KAMALANAGAR, November 6: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), Dg. Nirupam Chakma, today called for concerted efforts to make the Council an efficient and corruption-free institution, urging employees, elected representatives and the public to remain vigilant against corruption. He made the appeal while flagging off a Mega Walkathon from the CADC Secretariat, Kamalanagar, organised under the theme โ€œProbity for Prosperityโ€ as part of the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 and the 3-Month Campaign on Preventive Vigilance 2026 (17 August to 16 November).

Addressing participants before the flag-off, the CEM said that CADC was taking part in the nationwide campaign and would carry the message against corruption to all sections of society within its jurisdiction. He noted that the CADC administration implements government programmes and schemes through its 88 Village Councils, and stressed the need to ensure that public services are delivered with integrity.

The CEM urged everyone to work towards making CADC a model Autonomous District Council (ADC) for others to emulate. Achieving this, he noted, would earn the trust of both the Government of India and the Government of Mizoram, encouraging them to entrust the Council with further projects and schemes, as there is huge potential for development in CADC. Public trust, he added, can be earned only through honest and accountable functioning.

He further said that the Council must overcome past shortcomings with a firm commitment to efficiency and an administration free of corruption. He criticised both those who indulge in corruption and those who abet it, calling upon every department and individual to stand against corrupt practices so that CADC does not lag behind in the countryโ€™s journey towards Viksit Bharat.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dg. Sadhanand Chakma, pointed out that Vigilance Awareness Week is observed across the country around the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Recalling Patelโ€™s contribution to national integration, he reminded participants of their responsibility to uphold integrity in the service of the nation. The Executive Secretary, Dg. Pronit Bikash Chakma, also spoke briefly on the purpose and significance of the Walkathon.

Dg. Dr. Jyoti Bikash Chakma, President of the Central Young Chakma Association (CYCA), asserted that every employee bears the responsibility of keeping the Council clean of corruption. He urged employees to learn from past experiences, perform their duties sincerely and maintain personal integrity to prevent corruption.

He further said that corruption is not limited to financial misappropriation. Failing to perform assigned duties, remaining absent from office, and showing inefficiency, laziness or negligence at work also amount to corruption on the part of government employees, he added.

Employees and officers of CADC, NGO representatives, political leaders, Village Council leaders from the Kamalanagar town area, and teachers participated in the Walkathon. Participants carried placards reading โ€œHonesty First and Foreverโ€, โ€œVigilance Is My Dutyโ€ and โ€œService with Honesty and Integrityโ€. The Integrity Pledge for Citizens was taken by the participants twice, before and after the programme, reaffirming their commitment to honesty, transparency and the fight against corruption.
