Kamalanagar, 29th April, 2026 <\/strong>: The 55th CADC Day was celebrated at the CADC Secretariat today. Shri Sundor Muni Chakma, Hon\u2019ble Deputy Chairman, Chakma Autonomous District Council, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and unfurled the National Flag and the CADC Flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme was attended by Members of the District Council, former councillors, and officers and staff of CADC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chakma Autonomous District Council was formed on 29th April, 1972 under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution, following the trifurcation of the erstwhile Pawi-Lakher Regional Council into the Chakma, Lai and Mara Autonomous District Councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the historical significance of the day and recalled the contributions of the then Chakma leaders in the movement for autonomy. He paid tribute to the prominent leaders associated with the movement and acknowledged their role in laying the foundation of the present institutional framework. He also expressed respect to the framers of the Constitution for providing a constitutional framework for self-governance in tribal areas through the Sixth Schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that various communities residing within the Chakma Autonomous District Council continue to maintain peaceful coexistence, contributing to social harmony and developmental progress. He emphasised the role of Village Councils and civil society organisations in grassroots governance, implementation of schemes, and community mobilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Guest highlighted major works undertaken by the Council during 2025\u20132026, including implementation of social welfare schemes for vulnerable sections, infrastructure development, plantation and environmental initiatives, and promotion of livelihood opportunities through skill-based support. He also referred to a literacy survey conducted across all Village Councils, which recorded a literacy rate of 61.03 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged the support received from the Government of Mizoram and the Government of India, and emphasised the need for public cooperation for effective implementation of development initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
